Great Ways for Using Kief
Jun 24th 2022
While handling a cannabis plant, you may notice trichomes on the buds and leaves of the plant. Trichomes are the white-crystal-like substance that coats a mature cannabis plant. When trichomes dry and break away from the plant, they form a sticky resin called kief. These trichomes contain terpenes, THC, and CBD, which gives them unique qualities. But, the quality depends on the quality of the cannabis plant it is gotten from. High-quality cannabis means a high-quality kief. Note that a dark green contains many plant matter and, as such, is less potent. Yet, kief with light or blonde tan is a purer grade.
Kief is very potent, and if you use it well, it can aid in heightening your smoking experience. Before talking about fantastic ways to use it, let's show you how to collect it from your plant.
Grinding and Collecting Kief
If you only use a two-chamber grinder, your kief may waste. That's because it can fall off, sticking to the inner part of the grinder. The three-chamber grinder features a catcher, a unique compartment below the grinder itself. Once you grind the bud, the catcher collects the fine kief as it falls through a mesh screen.
You can also make a collector for yourself. To do this, place at least three layers of filter screen on top of each other. Ensure you set the finest mesh at the bottom chamber. Doing this will allow you to collect premium-quality kief with small plant matter.

Six Great Uses for Kief
You can use kief like a concentrate or flower. But it is less potent than a concentrate and more potent than a flower. So, it brings a balance for using it in a wide variety of ways.
1. Create Cannabutter
You can use kief to make cannabutter in your home and turn it into brownies or cakes. But before adding it to your edibles, ensure you decarboxylate it to activate the cannabinoids. To decarboxylate it, you can bake it in an oven-proof dish for about 20 minutes. When you are through, add it to the ground herb. Once you mix it with butter, your cannabutter is ready.
2. Make Moon Rocks
Ever wondered what moon rocks are? They are traditional rugs covered in hot oil and rolled in kief. Moon rocks are very potent, last for ages, and do not cost like concentrates. To prepare moon rock, heat marijuana oil and cover your cannabis plant with it. While the flower buds are still warm, sprinkle it over it. Or you can roll your buds in the kief using a pair of thongs.
After the rocks harden, use your hand to break them, sprinkle them in a bowl, and smoke them. Please don't use a grinder to break them because you will have fine moon rocks.
3. Create Hash
Harsh is a heated kief compressed to form small balls or brick. You can use it to make harsh at home. To make harsh, place the kief in the center of a parchment paper. After putting it, fold the parchment paper and use an iron or a hair straightener to press the folded paper for about 8-10 minutes.
When you do this, you apply heat and pressure. Hence, the composition of the kief changes. The pressure and heat you apply will compress it and turn it into harsh but won't burn the parchment paper.
To easily remove the harshness from the paper, refrigerate it for about 30-60 minutes.
4. Add It to Coffee or Tea
Kief users enjoy adding kief to their coffee. The heat in the coffee will activate the cannabinoids in the kief, so there's no need to heat it before using it. You can also sprinkle a little kief into your tea. Be careful not to use much. One milligram is okay for every six ounces of drink.
5. Add It to a Bowl
You can go ahead and smoke your kief. But it can be intense and a little messy because of how potent and powdery it is. The most popular way to use it is to sprinkle it on your bowl or coat it on the sides of the bowl.
Adding it will provide more flavor and enhance the effects of a regular bowl. But be careful of how much kief you consume since it's very potent.
6. Roll It in a Joint or Blunt
Another way to use kief is to sprinkle it on your joint or blunt. Mixing it with your bud is better before spreading it to your joint. Since it is powdery, mixing it with the bud will hold it and prevent it from falling out.
The best method is to sandwich your kief between your bud and wrap it up in a rolling paper.
